Limited Edition, 133 of 200. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Original hard cover in very good - condition. The actual size is 7 by 10 1/4 inches. There are 116 pages. There are 35 illustrations and a full color 9 3/4 by 30 inch pull out map attached to the back cover in unopened condition. The tipped in frontispiece is also in full color. The other illustrations are black and white photographic reproductions. The front cover is in vg clean condition with some wear including a bump to rear top corners The title is in black ink on a white pastedown that also includes a black graphic of a Pony Express rider. The cover material is blue green paper, slightly faded. The spine has wear and is slightly bumped on the top and bottom. The title and author's last name are on a pastedown on the spine, This paper has a torn corner, approx. 1/4 inch. The endpapers in the front and back of the book are in very good condition. The textblock and pages are in clean and tight condition, on laid, deckled paper with little or no finger soiling. No inscriptions or bookplates present. The binding is tight. The author's signature is signed in blue ink on the third front end paper. This book is an attempt by the author to clarify the confused history of the Pony Express in celebration of the centenary of the mail service. Mumey illuminates the history of mail service to the West leading up to the Pony Express and discusses the service, the Pony Boys, the trains, the horses, and all the exciting details of this early mail service.
