"The Conquest of Mount McKinley," by Belmore Browne. Published by G.P. Putnam's Son, New York and London. 1913. 1st edition. Scarce. Illustrated with 100 illustrations. Origianl light brown hardcover in good condition. The cover is textured with a gold-gilt rope design around edges. Lettering is bright, though it blends with cover color. Front, top corner frayed/bumped. Other corners have wear. Spine has light fraying and dulling on bottom. Cover has soiling. End pages are light brown, tan and red map of McKinley and surrounding area. End pages have light aging. Full color illustration(from magazine?) of mountain on glued to back of front free end page. 2 additional pictures are taped to back of book. Binding split but holding on additional front end pages. Frontispiece is full color illustration from painting by author, in good condition with opaque paper between it and title page. Title page in black and red ink, with a water stain along top. The water stain bleeds through the first several pages, lightening on consequtive pages. Text pages have occasional finger soilng. Full-color pull out map, approx. 14 by 19 1/2 inches in black, red and green, clean and bright. A 3-4 inch tear wear map attaches to book has been taped. Black and white photographs and illutrations from drawings and paintings in good condition. Actual size of book: 6 by 9 inches. 381 pages plus addition advertisements. This book is intended to give the reader a "failthful impresion of the wild lands we saw and the joys and sorrows that we experienced in our three struggles with North america's grandest mountain." 1st edition. Scarce. travel and adventure. Mountaineering.
