Volume I Condition: Fair only. Vol. 1 has bumped and frayed corners with board underneath exposed. Spine has heavy chipping with loss, especially along top and bottom of spine. Front and back gutters both split but holding at cords. Front and back endpapers split, but still holding. Marbled End pages have aging. Former owner's bookplate on front Pastedown "Will D. Jenkins" Jenkins' signature written in pen on first blank page. Frontispiece portrait of Sheridan has foxing/aging and the frontispiece design fades into proceeding pages. Text pages have aging, occasional soiling, some foxing. Pull-out maps: Battle of Stone River, 11 ½ by 9 inches, Map of Shenandoah Valley, 5 ½ by 15 inches, in good + condition with light aging. Volume I has 500 pages.
Volume II condition: Good + with light shelf wear to leather covers. Four corners lightly bumped. Top of spine lightly pulled. Marbled end pages are clean and tight. Frontispiece illustration has has light foxing/aging and the frontispiece design fades into proceeding pages. Textblock and pages are clean and tight to binding. Map of Battle of Cedar Creek in good + condition, 9 by 11 inches. Map of Indian Campaigns of 1868-9 measures 9 by 9 inches and is also in good + condition. Volume II is 486 pages.
